Our Work

In 2001, the Supreme Court passed an order stating “A basic entitlement of every child in every Government and Government assisted Primary Schools with a prepared Mid-day Meal with a minimum content of 300 calories and 8–12 grams of protein each day of school for a minimum of 200 days”
The Mid-day Meal Scheme is a school meal programme bythe Government of India designed to improve the nutritional status of school-age children nationwide.
The roots of the programme can be traced back to the Pre-Independence era, when a Mid-day Meal Programme was introduced in 1925 in Madras Corporation by the British administration. The Government of India initiated the National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education (NP-NSPE) on 15th August 1995.
Tithi Bhoj
The language of food is universally accepted all over the world. Feeding the less privileged is an act of compassion and kindness prevalent across all religions. As long as can be remembered, “Anna Daan” or the act of donating food is supreme and incomparable to any other form of charity.
Similar to this, our program ‘Tithi Bhoj’ enable you to sponsor meals on Special Occasions such as “Birthdays”, “Anniversaries”, “Weddings”, “Festivals”, “In memory of”, “Promotions” etc. for underprivileged children. By partnering with Annamrita, you not only continue the old age tradition of feeding the less fortunate, but are also the reason why somebody gets a meal which brings smiles to millions of the lesser privileged children.
With Annamrita, it is now easy for you to donate with multiple options like online payments, net banking or manual. If you prefer to make a monthly pledge, we will gladly assist with the same and provide a tax-deductible receipt. A standing instruction can also be given to your bank, or, you can send a donation by mail to administrative office. Come, double your happiness by sharing it with others

Khichdi Drive
One of the more frequently asked queries that we get at Annamrita is how corporate employees can be more involved in the project.
Keeping this in mind, our program Khichdi Drive was started with the goal of giving corporates and institutions a chance to be more involved in the project. In this, Annamrita hosts a khichdi tasting at a corporate office, wherein the employees at the office get to taste the same khichdi which is served to the children across schools that same day. This activity not only helps us fundraise but also creates a greater awareness for our cause.
So if you can’t directly donate but if you can even connect us to your HR team or speak about our work to your CSR Manager, we would be happy to come and host a khichdi drive at your premises.
Meals for hospital patients
After receiving countless complaints over unhealthy meals and poor hygiene, Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Medical College and Dr. R. N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital outsourced their cooking activity for the indoor patients to Annamrita – a path breaking move for any NGO for the first time.
In 2016 Annamrita Foundation inaugurated their one of its kind hi – tech kitchen at Dr. R. N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital.
Patients at Cooper Hospital are now being served hygienic, sanctified, nutritious meals for breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner, for which the Municipal Corporation has subsidized the cost of the meal. Health and nutrition for the lesser privileged is a cause Annamrita is sure many philanthropic individuals will be happy to support.
As the largest mid day meal provider in Maharashtra, we at Annamrita have now resolved to keep expanding and provide quality meals to other strata of society without compromising our dedication and quality.

The Annamrita program is carried out in Government aided as well as non-aided Schools. In Government Aided schools, the Education Inspectors of The Education Department of the Government of Maharashtra allocate the schools. The same is approved by The Parent Teacher Association and the Management of these schools.
The facility is available only for schools that have secular policy for admissions. For primary section each meal provides 12 grams of protein and 450 cal energy and for secondary section each meal provides 20 grams of protein and 700 cal energy. The government provides the raw rice and a minimum cooking charge of Rs 3.50 per child, the remainder of the expenses are borne by us.
We are only able to provide Mid Day Meals to Non Aided schools with donor support because Non aided schools are not covered under the Government of India, Mid Day Meal scheme. So non aided school meal project is completely managed and funded by Annamrita NGO through fundraising.
The objectives of the scheme are:

Improve educational effectiveness of children by providing them with the right nutrition and reducing malnourishment.

Attract and empower children from disadvantaged sections to schools, especially girls from Adivasi tribes. This will help increase the attendance, reduce dropout rates and also be a step towards women empowerment.

With an increase in education amongst the children, the feeling of oneness and secularism will also be promoted amongst children of different religions and cultures.
Majority of India’s population still goes hungry and is unable to secure even one complete square meal a day. With our nutritious mid day meal, we at Annamrita work towards liberating the underprivileged children from the vicious cycle of poverty and illiteracy. Since what they eat during their formative years serves as the basis to how they evolve in the future, we strive to provide them with satvik aahar, aka a diet filled with all sattvas like natural, pure, energy containing, clean etc, to help enrich their bodies in these important years.
